As the WA citrus season is in full flourish, Stuart takes a road trip to see what’s ready to be picked!
- WA has some of the best and varying climates to produce a wide range of fresh full flavoured citrus all throughout the year
- Citrus farmer Shane Kay is currently harvesting clementine mandarins, M7 navel oranges and Navelina oranges are just about to begin harvest at his farm in Gin Gin
- Shane explains there is an industry standard that citrus farmers in WA uphold to ensure the best eating quality of the fruit and the right ratio of flavour
- WA has some of the best citrus in the country
- A huge 95% of WA citrus is sold locally
- Across the state, almost 20 thousand tonnes of citrus is produced every year!
- We produce grapefruits, lemons, oranges and juicing fruits
- When looking to buy local citrus at your grocery store, look for something that identifies the produce with WA
- Sometimes there will be a sticker on the fruit with WA or the grocer may have a point of sale indication of where the produce is from
- Fresh citrus is full of vitamin C, antioxidants and provides a great energy boost
- Support our local farmers by buying fresh local citrus!
