Presenter: Lee Steele
Lee visits free ranged and barn farms to see which is the most beneficial to our animal’s welfare.
- Free range is a method of farming that gives animals a chance to roam freely, offering the opportunity for extensive locomotion and sunlight, which would be prevented by indoor housing systems.
- Although free range is beneficial to animals it invites many issues, which are still being discussed today. Animals are vulnerable to diseases and predators, thus this proves a problem to farmers.
- Enclosures or barn laid methods allows increased protection for animals compared to free range, it also gives farmers a chance monitor what their livestock is eating and if it’s safe.
